Why it matters to you

Claiming it gives you a follower list that receives automatic new-release notices, and it lets you correct the book titles, covers, descriptions, and retailer links readers see; left unclaimed, none of that is yours to fix. It is worth doing for any author whose books are sold as ebooks, and it does less for a print-only, academic, or picture book. It applies the same way on all three routes, whether a publisher or you released the book, and it is separate from any decision about paying for a Featured Deal or advertising, which claiming a profile does not enter you for. You're done when the profile is claimed, the photo and bio are current, and every book and retailer link is right.

What it is

BookBub is a reader-facing book discovery service best known for its paid discounted-ebook promotions. Separately, it offers free tools for authors through BookBub Partners, and the Author Profile is the main one. An author creates a Partners account, verifies their identity, and claims the profile that lists their books on BookBub.

Once claimed, the author can add a photo and biography, edit book information, post recommendations of other books, and build a follower base. BookBub sends followers automatic New Release alerts when a claimed author publishes a new title, and offers preorder alerts for some books.

What it identifies or controls

Your author profile on BookBub and the accuracy of the book data attached to it, plus the follower list that receives new-release notices. It has no effect on whether BookBub selects your book for a paid Featured Deal, which is a separate editorial decision.

What you should do

Create a BookBub Partners account, verify your identity, and claim your profile. Add a photo and a short biography, then check each book: title, cover, description, and retailer links. Fix anything wrong through the profile's edit tools. Post a few honest recommendations of books you have read; BookBub notes that readers are more likely to follow profiles with a photo, biography, current book data, and recommendations.

This is worth doing for any author whose books are sold as ebooks, and it applies the same way whether a publisher or you released the book. It is separate from any decision about paying for BookBub advertising or applying for a Featured Deal.

How to verify it

  1. Sign in to BookBub Partners and open your Author Profile.
  2. Confirm every book you have published appears with the right cover, description, and buy links.
  3. Search bookbub.com (opens in a new tab) for your name and confirm the public profile matches and no duplicate profile exists.
  4. After each release, check that the new title is attached and that the New Release alert went out.

Commonly confused with

The Author Profile is free; the Featured Deal and BookBub Ads are paid promotions and are not part of it. Claiming a profile does not enter you for a deal. BookBub is not a retailer and not a review site; it links out to stores. It is also not connected to Amazon Author Central or Goodreads.
