Terms of use

What you're agreeing to.

The agreement that covers reading AuthorChecklist.com, creating a free Author Profile, paying to add a book, and publishing an author or book page.

Last updated September 16, 2026

Under review by counsel. The operating entity, governing law, contact details, product scope, and the all-sales-final rule are set. Counsel is confirming the liability cap and dispute provisions.

AuthorChecklist.com is operated by Fosterly, LLC, a Maryland limited liability company ("Fosterly", "we"), PO Box 59204, Potomac, MD 20854. By using AuthorChecklist.com you agree to these terms with Fosterly. If you do not agree, please do not use the site.

What the site is, and is not

AuthorChecklist.com provides educational information and organizational tools. It is not a publisher, literary agent, publicist, lawyer, accountant, distributor, review publication, library, or award administrator. Requirements and deadlines can change. The official rules of each outside organization control. Nothing on this site guarantees reviews, awards, sales, library purchases, or media attention.

Free content

The checklist, directories, and glossary are free to read. You may link to any page. You may not copy the directories or checklist in bulk to republish them elsewhere.

The Author Profile

The Author Profile is your workspace on the site, and creating it is free. Your public author page, your calendar, and the templates come with it at no charge. The outreach log, like the checklist tools, comes with a book. Publishing professional profiles are free as well.

Adding a book to your Author Profile costs one payment of $40, with no subscription and no recurring charge. That payment covers every edition and format of that title, the book's public page and media kit, its checklist progress, its records, its submissions and results, and the advanced directory search filters. A different book requires another purchase. Anyone who paid before September 16, 2026 keeps everything they bought, and nothing is charged twice.

Collaborator seats let one other person work in your Author Profile. A seat is bought for a person you invite; if you end that person's access, the seat is free to invite someone else.

Publishers, publicists, and other professionals may buy licenses for the authors they work with. Each license covers one book in the author's own free profile. Licenses cost $40 each for 1 to 10 in one order and $35 each for 11 to 100; larger orders are quoted by hand. The pricing page is the source of truth for prices, and checkout shows the exact total before you pay.

Access is tied to your account. You may not share an account or resell access.

All sales are final

Books, collaborator seats, professional licenses, and services are delivered as soon as you pay, so all sales are final and we do not offer refunds. If something is not working, contact us and we will put it right. If your card issuer reverses or disputes a payment, the access, credits, or seats that payment bought are suspended until it is resolved; nothing you entered is deleted.

Services

When you buy a service (the Set It Up For Me bundle or a single service), you authorize us to check, create, correct, or request corrections to public records about you and your book on your behalf, using the information you give us and public sources. Outside platforms, registries, and communities decide what they accept, when, and whether it stays; we never guarantee that a record will be created, corrected, or kept. Each service describes what we do, what we need from you, what you receive, and what counts as complete. Work starts when we have what we need from you. Fees an outside organization charges are agreed with you first, paid on your behalf, and not refundable once paid. Edits we make under your name or on a public database are made openly, and we disclose that we are acting for you where a platform's rules require it.

Collaborators and professionals

You own your author profile and every book in your workspace. Someone you invite as a collaborator can see and edit task statuses, dates, assignments, notes, submissions, results, costs, and public-page drafts for the books you share, and your author profile if you include it. A professional who sponsors your license can see task statuses, dates, assignments, results, and public-page content for the sponsored book, and can edit statuses, dates, and public-page drafts; a professional never sees your private notes, costs, uploaded files, confirmation numbers, or comments. You can end anyone's access at any time from Team. When a professional's access ends, you keep everything. Before anyone accepts an invitation, the invitation states what they will be able to see and do.

Your content

You own what you enter into your workspace and publish on an author or book page. You give us permission to store and display it as needed to provide the service. You are responsible for having the right to publish anything you make public, including review excerpts and images, and for the accuracy of your public pages. Publish a review excerpt only when you have the reviewer's or outlet's permission, the outlet's own quotation terms allow it, or the use is otherwise legally permitted, and link to the original review whenever you can. If you believe a public page on this site infringes your rights, write to the contact address below with the page address and what you own, and we will take the page down while we look into it.

You may not use public pages to impersonate another person, to publish content you do not have rights to, or to publish unlawful material. We may unpublish a page that violates these terms and will tell you why.

Accounts

You must be at least 18 to create an account or make a purchase. A parent or legal guardian may create and run an account for an author under 18, and is responsible for that account and for anything it publishes. Creating an account, whether by signing in with Google, with an emailed code, or through a purchase, is your agreement to these terms and your acknowledgement of the Privacy Policy; we record which version you accepted and when. Keep your sign-in method secure. Tell us promptly if you believe someone else has used your account.

Availability and changes

We work to keep the site available but do not promise uninterrupted service. We may change features over time. If we ever discontinue the Author Profile, we will give account holders reasonable notice and a way to export their records.

Disclaimer and limitation

The site is provided "as is". To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses arising from use of the site or a service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the greater of the total amount you paid us for the product or service the claim concerns and $100. For a service, that means the price of that service plus any outside fees we paid on your behalf for it. Nothing here limits liability that the law does not allow us to limit.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Maryland, without regard to its conflict-of-law rules. Where the law allows, any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Maryland, and you and Fosterly consent to their jurisdiction. Nothing here takes away rights that the law of your own home jurisdiction gives you and does not let you waive.
