Why it matters to you

Unclaimed, the author page a reader sees is whatever Amazon assembled, and any edition listed under a different spelling of your name sits apart from the rest of your work. Only you can fix that: a publisher cannot claim your author page for you, and the platform account a self-publisher publishes through is a separate login, so the job is identical on all three routes. Amazon's help says author pages are not removed once created, so use exactly the name that appears on your books rather than creating a second page you would rather not have. You're done when one author page carries the right name and every edition and format is attached to it.

What it is

Amazon Author Central is Amazon's free service for authors to claim and manage the Author Page that appears on Amazon, link their books to it, and add a biography and other content. You sign in with an ordinary Amazon account, claim the Author Page for your name, and add books by ISBN or ASIN; Amazon confirms the claim, which can take a few days.

Amazon's own help text notes that the name on the Author Page must match the author name listed on your books, that Author Pages are not removed once created, and that content you add appears across Amazon after a delay. Amazon has been adding features under an Amazon Author label, including a paid Author Pro tier previewed to members, so the interface changes.

What a verified account can do (from Amazon's own welcome message, checked 2026-09-14): update your Author Page in any Amazon marketplace from one dashboard; add a biography in another language for readers elsewhere; add your books to the page; update your books' product description, editorial reviews, and other details; follow the Amazon Sales Rank and customer reviews of your books and read U.S. BookScan data; and use it from a phone.

Good to know: BookScan weekly sales report. Author Central includes a weekly sales report that shows copies sold of your bestselling books as reported by BookScan for the period you choose. BookScan counts print copies sold in the United States through participating retailers, so it is an estimate of retail sales, not a count of every copy and not the same thing as your publisher's royalty statement. It is the closest thing most authors have to a live view of print sales, and it is free with the claimed page.

What it identifies or controls

Your Author Page on Amazon (biography, in more than one language if you add them, blog feed, and the list of books shown under your name), in every Amazon marketplace from one dashboard. On your books' detail pages, the product description, the editorial reviews, and the About the Author section, which you can update yourself once the book is linked. Reporting: the Amazon Sales Rank and customer reviews of your titles, and U.S. BookScan data. It does not control price, availability, cover, format, or the underlying title record; those come from the publisher's or platform's feed.

What you should do

There is nothing to claim until Amazon has a product page for at least one of your books: an ISBN (or an ASIN for a Kindle-only title) with a live listing or preorder. Until then, the step is getting the listing live, through your publisher's feed or your own publishing platform. Claim it as soon as your first book has a listing, on every Amazon marketplace where your books sell. Add every edition and format of every book; the ebook, paperback, hardcover, and audiobook are separate listings and each must be attached. Write a biography, keep it under roughly a thousand characters as Amazon suggests, and use exactly the name that appears on your books. If a book shows under a different spelling of your name, contact Author Central support with the ASIN or ISBN rather than creating a second page.

This applies equally to traditionally and self-published authors. The publisher cannot claim your Author Page for you, and the platform account you publish through is not the same thing.

Once the book is on sale, open the BookScan weekly sales report in Author Central now and then. Read it as a trend, not a total: it shows U.S. print sales reported by participating retailers, and your royalty statement is the number that counts.

How to verify it

  1. Sign in at author.amazon.com (opens in a new tab) and open your Author Page preview.
  2. Confirm every edition and format of each book is listed; add any missing ones by ISBN or ASIN.
  3. Search Amazon for your name and confirm the Author Page appears and links to the right books, and that no duplicate Author Page exists under a variant spelling.
  4. Repeat the check after each new edition or format releases.

Commonly confused with

Author Central is not Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP), the self-publishing platform, and not Amazon Advantage or Seller Central. It can update the description and editorial reviews shown on a book's page, but not the price, availability, cover, format, or the title record itself; those are the publisher's job through the metadata feed, so a wrong ISBN or price still goes back to the source. It is also not an identifier: claiming it does nothing for library catalogs, ISNI, or VIAF.
