Ebook accessibility

Whether an ebook can be used by readers with disabilities: read aloud by a screen reader, reflowed and restyled for low vision or dyslexia, and navigated without a mouse. It depends on how the file is built (real headings, image descriptions, a navigable table of contents, text kept as text) and on the accessibility metadata that tells retailers and libraries which of those features the file has. The European Accessibility Act has required it of ebooks sold in the European Union since 28 June 2025, and Amazon, Apple, Kobo, and the library vendors now show the details on the listing. The standard to name is EPUB Accessibility 1.1; the free checker is Ace by DAISY.
