The Next Generation Indie Book Awards (NGIBA) is an international program for independent authors and independent publishers, with more than 80 categories across fiction and nonfiction. It is run from Vancouver, Washington and accepts English-language books from the United States, Canada, and elsewhere.
The 2027 awards take books released in 2025, 2026, or 2027, or carrying a copyright date in one of those years. Entries can be mailed as physical copies (two for the first category, one more for each additional category) or uploaded as a single PDF that covers every category entered; ebooks can be entered entirely online.
The fee is $80 for the first category and $65 for each additional one. Entrants who pay online by September 30, 2026 get their second category free. All books must be received by February 12, 2027.
Why it may matter
This is one of the larger independent award programs by entry count, and its cash prizes for the overall fiction and nonfiction winners are unusual among indie programs. Recognition circulates mainly among independent authors and the readers who follow indie award seals, rather than among trade buyers. The free-second-category offer in September changes the arithmetic for a book that fits two categories.
