The Nautilus Book Awards are a subject-oriented program for books the organizers describe as contributing to positive social change, conscious living, and a better world. Categories run across personal growth, spirituality, health, ecology, social change, business, memoir, fiction, poetry, and children's and young adult books, and several categories are split into A and B divisions so independent and small-press entries are judged separately from large-publisher entries.
Self-published authors, small presses, hybrid publishers, and large traditional publishers are all accepted. Entries must be complete, published editions available for public purchase; manuscripts, sample copies, watermarked files, and non-distribution versions are rejected. Most categories are judged from a PDF; five categories (Photography and Arts, Food and Cooking, Gift and Specialty Resources, and the two children's picture and illustrated categories) also require physical books.
The 2027 season opens September 15, 2026. The Early Bird fee of $95 runs through November 30, 2026, and the Regular fee of $130 runs from December 1 through the February 8, 2027 final deadline. Additional categories cost $50 (Early Bird) or $75 (Regular), up to four categories per book.
Why it may matter
Nautilus is the award that publishers and authors in the mind-body-spirit, wellness, and social-change space tend to know, and the silver and gold seals are common in that section of independent bookstores and at conferences serving those readers. Outside that subject area it carries less recognition. The A and B divisions mean a self-published book is not judged directly against a large-house title in the same category.
