Harvey Awards

ReedPop, in association with New York Comic Con

In short

The Harvey Awards are presented each fall at New York Comic Con and are run by ReedPop, the convention's organizer, in categories covering books, digital books, manga, and international work. Comic shops and graphic novel buyers at libraries note the nominations. Nobody enters: the awards organization announces the nominees and comics industry professionals vote during a fixed window. There is no fee and no submission route, so the only thing a creator or publisher can do is be visible to the professionals who vote.

The Harvey Awards, named for cartoonist Harvey Kurtzman, are presented each fall at New York Comic Con and are built and supported by ReedPop, the convention's organizer. Current categories are Book of the Year, Digital Book of the Year, Best Children's or Young Adult Book, Best Manga, Best International Book, Best Adaptation from a Comic Book or Graphic Novel, and Hall of Fame inductions.

There is no public submission process. Nominees are unveiled by the awards organization (for 2026, on July 7), and voting is open to comics industry professionals during a fixed window (July 7 through August 28, 2026). Winners are announced at a ceremony during New York Comic Con, scheduled for October 9, 2026.

The official site does not describe entry fees or a way for creators or publishers to enter a book, so treat the Harveys as an award to watch rather than one to plan a submission around.

Why it may matter

The Harveys are one of the two long-running comics industry awards in the United States, and a nomination is noted by comic shops and graphic novel buyers at libraries. With no entry mechanism, the only lever a creator or publisher has is visibility among the industry professionals who vote.

Worth knowing

Our reading, not a rule the organization published. We judge an award on the rubric in how we describe awards.

The site publishes the nominee announcement date, the professional voting window, and the ceremony date each year, but not eligibility rules. If your publisher has a comics marketing team, ask whether they engage with the Harvey Awards nominating process; otherwise there is nothing to file.

Rules and deadlines change. We last checked this information on September 13, 2026. If you see something that needs updating, please tell us.
