Book Excellence Awards

Book Excellence Awards

In short

The Book Excellence Awards are a paid contest run by an awards company of the same name, open to English-language books with a standard book identifier. The value is the seal and the promotional package, and recognition circulates mainly among independent authors rather than trade buyers or review outlets. Authors and publishers enter online with a digital file at $199 for the first category, and there is no publication-date rule, so an older book can enter. If you publish with a trade house, ask your publisher first.

Every label is a fact from the official rules, never a judgment about whether the award is worth entering. How we describe awards.

The Book Excellence Awards is a paid-entry recognition program open to authors and publishers of English-language books that have an ISBN (International Standard Book Number) or ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number). There is no publication-date requirement, so backlist titles may enter alongside new ones. Entries are judged in a long list of fiction and nonfiction categories.

Entry is by online application with a book file (PDF, EPUB, MOBI, or Word, or a gifted ebook), a cover image, and optional marketing materials. The fee is $199 for one category and $99 for each additional category, with a discount offered to email subscribers.

The application deadline is December 31 each year, and winners and finalists are announced in the spring.

Why it may matter

This is a marketing-oriented program: the value is the seal, the announcement, and the promotional package, and recognition circulates mainly among independent authors rather than trade buyers or review outlets. The absence of a publication-date rule makes it one of the few options for an older title. Weigh the fee, which is higher than most comparable programs, against what a seal is likely to do for the specific book.

Worth knowing

Our reading, not a rule the organization published. We judge an award on the rubric in how we describe awards.

The application page states the December 31 deadline without naming a year and lists the additional-category fee as $99 in one place and $119 in another. Confirm both on the form before paying. No publication-date restriction applies under the current rules.
